What’s my most anticipated release of the summer? Maddie Ruthless & The Secret Affair, easily. I’ve been following Maddie’s low-fi, acoustic rocksteady solo career for a couple of years now, and I’ve just now gotten a few hints as to where her studio sound will take her. So far, it seems like her work with The Secret Affair (AKA Fatter Than Albert) is more polished than her early recordings, but decidedly raw and rough. EDIT: I completely neglected to mention that the record will be released by Community Records.

What is this, Lily Allen does the ska?! I’m not usually a fan of female ska singers and this one is no exception. Does not work well over this weak ska beat, pass.
