I just found out that Mojo Morgan, of Morgan Heritage fame is branching out with a new skool solo album. This is progressive Reggae, for sure.
Swing by Mojo’s MySpace and introduce your ears to this fresh sound. The highlights include (but are not limited to) a very modern take on Rudy, A Message to You, called Rude Bwoy, a roots rock cover of The Police’s Roxanne, and a T-Pain inspired Herbsman Anthem feat. the man called, Peter Tosh.
Morgan Heritage is one of my favorite groups, from way back, and I love the new style that Mojo’s providing. I wish that more Reggae acts would try to incorporate Ska elements into their sound.

I have never heard of A1 Records before today… and I can find surprisingly little about them on their site. None the less, when I heard from Aaron at Roots Rock Rebel, that A1 was releasing their entire ska/reggae catalog, I knew I had to check it out.
There’s a lot to consume in one sitting, but so far I really like the vibe over at A1.
Download the entire A1 catalog.

Easy Star All-Stars are dangerously close to releasing thier new cover album, Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band. Yup, you guess it- like Dub Side of The Moon and Radio Dread- add The Beatles to the list of seminal bands getting the roots and dub treatment on the full album tip.
You can hear three of the new tracks, With a Little Help From My Friends, She’s Leaving Home and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, by clicking here. And here’s a little press vid they did:

I’ve been talking a lot about the new Specials reunion, but have yet to post a truly great video of it. Luckily, The Specials have performed on the Jools Holland show and it’s hit YouTube.
Sounds like they’re still amazing, even if they do play the songs fairly straightforward.
